Gibson Vintage L-50 Archtop Electric Guitar Sunburst

We’re guessing that this pre-owned Gibson L50 SB was built around 1951, based on the factory order number stamped inside (5485-34) and other characteristics such as the McCarty-era trapezoid fret markers, a beveled multi-ply pickguard, and the post-1947 modern Gibson logo in which the dot for the letter ‘I” is not connected to the “G”. Features include a double-bound 16” body, a solid spruce top, tone-bar bracing, mahogany sides and (arched) back, a bound 19-fret rosewood fretboard, and single-line, “no-name” Kluson tuners, and a beveled multi-ply pickguard, and a solid mahogany neck that has likely been reset at some point.
The guitar is in very good condition but it’s definitely been played. There’s some slight checking and significant scratch marks toward the upper bouts (somebody has definitely strummed this guitar as if their life depended on it). Then, there are the dings throughout the top and on the lower side of the body. A significant gouge appears by the upper F-hole. Still there’s the fact that this guitar is truly fun to play; it’s easy on the touch and eminently playable. Is it the loudest acoustic guitar? No, however the L50 wasn’t intended to be a heard within a swing band although it would fit in with small ensemble. It’s scale length (traditional Gibson scale of 24 ¾”) and body size is the same as the L-4 and ES-175 models. The L50’s The bridge is the compensated adjustable rosewood type that was popular on Gibson’s archtops of the era. With its dark sunburst laquer finish and overall cook vibe, here’s a guitar to play and enjoy. Singer songwriters looking for something different will love it. Comes with a non-original hardshell case.
